Today I received the Onbo 5200 mAh 3S 25C LiPo for the Fohdy. There is, however, a slight problem…
The battery doesn’t fit into the electronics compartment! In the picture above the battery should fit under the Coroplast lid, allowing it to close flat with the top of the lid flush with the aerofoil surface.
On the website of the local distributor, as well as the Onbo Power website, the battery dimensions are listed as 24mm x 50mm x 160mm, which would fit nicely into the 25mm high electronics compartment. However the actual battery is only 42.8mm wide but 29.8mm high, 5.8mm higher than specified and 4.8mm higher than the electronics compartment allows!
And here’s a picture showing the other dimensions, in case anyone is interested. Note the short balance lead, which I much prefer to the typical long leads that add unnecessary weight and get caught in multi-rotor props unless you tie them down.
For the record, the battery weighed about 390g. This is 3.7% more than the advertised 376g, but that’s within the margin of error of my uncalibrated scale.
Since it’s not possible to increase the height of the electronics compartment without affecting the aerofoil, I’m going to have to return this battery and find another that will fit. As an engineer, I find this incredibly frustrating. How hard can it be to put accurate product dimensions on a website?
