About

I am a Radio Frequency (RF) Electronics Engineer currently working in the military communications industry. I am also an ex gliding pilot and instructor, and private pilot. I enjoy building and flying FPV mini-quads.

This blog is mostly for my own reference – a replacement for a written journal, where I record what I’ve done, how I did it, and what I discovered in the process. I put it online in the hope that it may help a couple of like-minded enthusiasts, even if just to avoid repeating the mistakes I’ve made!

I do have some affiliate links to Banggood and Surveilzone because if you purchase something from them, then I’ll earn some points that I can use to help fund my future purchases. And, as every married person knows, “hobby income” is quite different from regular income!

If you would like to contact me, then please leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.

Hello, I am following your FOHDY build intently. I am a land surveyor and intend to use this airframe for aerial photgrametry/mapping. Your run time and propeller calculations have been wonderful.

My kit arrives hopefully by the end of this week. I hope to catch up with you on the build in short order.

    • Todd I’m pleased that you are finding the series interesting – thanks for letting me know! My build has been delayed by the non-arrival of the ESC that was back-ordered by Team Legit, but I’ve been in contact with them and hope the issue will be resolved shortly. Best wishes for your build and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Have you seen the “Lipo Finder” from Hobbyking? It is a nice search tool that lets you move sliders to your required dimensions, weights, capacity, discharge, etc and then finds batteries that meet your requirements.

      • Thanks for the pointer – I just tried it and it seems pretty useful. I may have to go to a 4200 mAh battery on my build, as it’s the next highest capacity available from the local supplier where I got the 5200 mAh battery that doesn’t fit. I’m just waiting for them to confirm the actual measured dimensions….
